Isle of Palms
Originally known as "Long Island," the Isle of Palms is one of Charleston's premier beach communities. From smaller beach bungalows to luxury beach retreats well over a million dollars, the Isle of Palms has it all. Originally developed in the early 20th century as a beachfront with one hotel, and built up in the mid 20th Century, the Isle of Palms has blossomed into a full resort destination. Rental regulations are much less stringent than neighboring Sullivan's Island, with many properties qualifying for vacation rentals. Beachfront or second row homes, and those with pools fetch the highest return for investment purposes. Isle of Palms also has many full time residents and more modest homes set back from the waterfront. A charming downtown, booming marina facilities, several top restaurants and large grocery store contribute to the appeal of this island.
