Mt. Pleasant (Inside IOP Connector)

Mt. Pleasant's older, denser side boasts a landscape covered in zigzagging streets and entangled highways. With downtown Charleston on the other side of the Cooper River, this area is one of the biggest and most populated suburbs just out of the bounds of the city proper. But aside from easy access to downtown, Mt. Pleasant gives residents an array of reasons to call this suburb home, from golf and shopping to pretty parks and a red-hot dining and nightlife scene. With so many separate districts, finding the perfect piece of Mt. Pleasant real estate should be a breeze.

Originally occupied by the Sewee people, Mt. Pleasant eventually grew to become a center for shipbuilding. The neighborhood called "Old Town" is the community's oldest residential sector. In fact, 11 Hibben Street, now called Hibben House, has stood in the neighborhood since 1755.

With plenty of dwellings overlooking the river and lots of residential districts adjacent to major thoroughfares, there's no shortage of homes for sale in Mt. Pleasant. Available properties run the gamut from sensible starter homes to waterfront stunners built in the early part of the 20th century.
