Beach Retreats: Folly Beach

Now that the summer has officially come to an end and we start peering ahead to costume parties, entertaining, and cooler temperatures, we may find ourselves reminiscing of the beach days now behind us. Many of us spent countless hours with our toes in the sand here in the Lowcountry, particularly at Folly Beach. For those unfamiliar with this sandy stretch of land to the southwest of Downtown Charleston, it is today’s Beach Retreats topic.

Known as “The Edge of America,” Folly Beach is only a mere 12 square miles of land, but it packs a big punch into every inch. On hot summer days, Folly Beach is brimming with tourists and locals alike, eating at the Crab Shack, shopping for boogie boards, or stocking up the cooler to make their way to the water. The Folly Beach pier attracts fishermen looking for the catch of the day as well as those seeking a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean or maybe a bright sunset at the end of a busy beach day.

Only 15 minutes from Downtown Charleston, Folly Beach is truly a retreat in every sense of the world, offering a break from the hustle and bustle of city life and allowing visitors to enjoy a day in a true beach town on the Carolina coast. Folly Beach is also home to loggerhead turtles, dolphins, bald eagles and several endangered species.

From beach cabins to luxury homes, Folly Beach offers a variety of real estate. There is truly something for everyone here on the Edge of America. Click here to search homes for sale on Folly Beach.
