ISLE OF PALMS
This barrier island offers the best of both worlds, a larger downtown area with supermarket and shopping, as well as the pristine ocean front beach which stretches six miles across. Originally known as Long Island, the Isle of Palms has properties from smaller condos to homes well over a million dollars. Originally developed in the early 20th century as a resort destination with a hotel, and built up mid century with numerous veterans dwellings, the Isle of Palms has blossomed into a full resort destination. Large beach front homes are prominent through the palmetto fronds which line Ocean Boulevard, and the Island also boasts the popular Isle of Palms County Park, with outdoor showers and changing rooms as well as other amenities. The Ile of Palms Marina is also a popular spot, not only for fishermen embarking on deep sea fishing competitions, but also for recreational boaters as the marina offers public boat access.
The renowned Wild Dunes community situated at the north end of the island offers innumerable amenities including tennis, clubhouses, and a world renowned golf course right on the Intracoastal Waterway. Homes are grand and sprawling in this gated community, and many offer deep water docks or boat slips for owner use. This community was planned by the same developers who built much of Hilton Head Island, and Wild Dunes has become a premier vacation spot and popular full time residence community.
